7 Tips for Maximizing Your Mental Health

Happy woman with arms outstretchedAs millions of adults suffer anxiety and depression, many seek natural ways to improve their mental health. Dr. Lee Ann offers some tips for optimizing your mental well-being.

Express gratitude

Did you know that by expressing gratitude, you can improve your mood? Gratitude is the attitude for receiving. Write the things you love about yourself and your life, and what you’re grateful for. Feel how amazing you are after everything you have gone through. You’re calling more of that gratitude into your life when you feel it. Dr. Lee Ann is grateful for her kitty!

Use essential oils

From perfumes and colognes to cleaning agents and dryer sheets, these are full of synthetic fragrances, which are labeled the new cigarettes. Instead of using toxic chemicals, consider using essential oils. Choose from sandalwood, lavender and citrus scents.
Avoid buying your oils from the grocery store or a big box store. Instead, Dr. Lee Ann recommends you purchase from a reputable source and suggests Young Living® or dōTERRA®, which are high-quality essential oils. You always want to purchase 100% pure plant-based essential oils.

Here are some ways to use them:

  • Put the oil on a wool dryer ball and put it in your dryer to make your clothes smell good.
  • Use essential oils in hand soaps and perfume.
  • Replace toxic home and car air fresheners with essential oils.

Change your negative thoughts

Do you have a running dialogue of negative statements, such as “I hate myself” or “I can’t do anything right”? If yes, please stop right now and change to “I love myself, but hate the things that I do to myself.” Remember that the things you do can be easily changed. See how different you’ll feel when you say you love yourself.

Meditate for 5-10 minutes a day

If you’re feeling anxious, consider sitting quietly in a room and focusing on breathing. Dr. Lee Ann recommends guided meditations where a speaker talks you through visualizations where you sit comfortably and follow along.

Visualize your successful day

Start your day thinking about how you want it to appear. How do you want to positively affect others? You’ll feel more positive and inspired to take empowered actions to have a successful day.

Clean up the clutter in your office or main living space

Did you know that visual clutter, such as a messy desk, can increase anxiety and reduce memory and focus? You can feel overwhelmed. Conversely, when you spend your time in a clean, simple, uncluttered space, you perceive life more clearly and simply.

Have fun

When we get caught up in the daily grind, we lose sight of things that make us happy and lower our stress. Break up the monotony of your daily routine by doing something fun that you haven’t done in ages. Don’t take life seriously all the time!
